UUA GENERAL ASSEMBLY DELEGATE POLICY
To ensure a fair and representative delegation to the annual UUA General Assembly, the following procedure will be adopted by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Erie.
- In January, the Board of Trustees will announce the upcoming UUA General Assembly to the congregation.
- The number of delegates for the congregation as determined by the UUA, which is based on the number of the voting members in the congregation. A voting member is one who has signed the membership book, made a pledge of record for the current fiscal year, and has paid on that pledge.
- Any voting member is eligible to become a voting delegate for the congregation.
- Any voting member who wishes to become a delegate must declare so, in writing, at least 10 days prior to the February Congregational meeting.
- At the congregational meeting, each potential delegate will give a brief statement on why they wish to be a delegate. If the candidate is unable to attend the congregational meeting in person or virtually, a written statement may be read.
- A written ballot of the voting members present, shall determine the delegate(s).
- If there are not sufficient potential delegates presented at the February Congregational meeting, the Board of Trustees may select delegates.
- The delegate(s) should have knowledge on issues of the business before the UUA; delegates may vote their conscience on matters before the UUA
- The delegate agrees to participate at business meetings and cast votes.
